MediCare+ (FYP - Developing)

A Surprising Turn of Events

This is actually a competition that held directly after MCMC Datathon. Little did I know, it would lead us to the finals of a prestigious hackathon. The moment we were announced as finalists, I was both thrilled and surprised. It was an unexpected turn of events that set the stage for an exciting journey.

The Excitement of Travel

The finals were held in Penang, and I had to make a quick trip from Johor Bahru. The prospect of flying was exhilarating; it had been a while since I last boarded a plane. The urgency of the situation added to the thrill, as I had a quiz scheduled the very next day.

Learning and Growth at USM

Arriving at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) for the final round was an eye-opener. The environment was buzzing with innovation and ideas. It was here that I delved into the world of blockchain.

Project Overview

MediCare+ is a comprehensive solution designed to address the significant issue of pharmaceutical pollutants in Malaysia. The platform integrates medicine reminders, expiry date notifications, and proper disposal guidance to reduce the environmental impact of unused medications.

Problem Statement

Pharmaceutical pollutants pose a serious threat to the environment in Malaysia, with improper disposal of unused medications contributing to water contamination and ecological damage. The lack of a comprehensive solution for medication management leads to:

  • Expired medications being improperly disposed of
  • Unused medications accumulating in homes
  • Inconsistent medication adherence resulting in waste
  • Limited awareness about proper medication disposal methods

Technologies Used

  • Flutter for cross-platform mobile development
  • Firebase for backend, notification and authentication
  • Geolocation services for nearest disposal point suggestions

The Evolution of MediCare+

What began as a competition entry has now evolved into my final year project (FYP). MediCare+ is no longer just a concept; it’s a comprehensive solution aimed at tackling pharmaceutical pollutants in Malaysia. The journey has been challenging, especially with the integration of an AI agent into the application. However, these challenges are what make the project exciting and fulfilling.

Looking Ahead

As I continue to develop MediCare+, the vision is to create a platform that not only addresses environmental concerns but also enhances healthcare management. The journey from a participant to a hackathon finalist has been transformative, and I am eager to see where this path leads.
